What are the hours of operation?
Monday - Friday 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM

Who does the agency serve?
NSS serves residents of Washtenaw County - 60 and older. Our highest priority goes to seniors with the fewest financial and social supports.

How do I get help?
Seniors, caregivers, and referring agencies are welcome to call (734) 712-7775 to speak with a member of the Resource Advocacy team. A telephone assessment is conducted to determine eligibility and type of support needed. Depending on the nature of the request(s), a more comprehensive in-home assessment may be required. This and all other client matters are handled in a sensitive and confidential manner.

Is there a fee for service?
Cost-share contributions are requested based on financial ability, but no one is denied service because they are unable to pay. All client cost-share contributions help support our programs and also enable us to serve more seniors.

How is the agency funded?
Neighborhood Senior Services is a 501 c-3, non-profit agency funded by the Federal Older Americans Act through the Office of Services to the Aging and the Area Agency on Aging 1-B. Funding is also received from the City of Ann Arbor, The Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation, Saint Joseph Mercy Health System, Washtenaw County, Washtenaw United Way and various private and corporate sponsors.

How can I get involved with the volunteer program at NSS?
Individuals, families and groups are welcome to contact Volunteer Services at (734) 712-7259 to initiate the Volunteer Application process. The Director of Volunteer Services will arrange for an interview to further assess interest and compatibility for the program.

What kind of training is required for volunteers?
Volunteer training will vary depending on the volunteer assignment. All volunteers must have a general overview of policies and procedures followed by more detailed orientation to particular assignment. Volunteers providing ongoing, direct service to clients (companionship, errands & medical transportation) are asked to attend quarterly volunteer education/support sessions.

Are there one-time volunteer opportunities?
Yes! Many individuals, families, service groups and companies lend a hand with one-time projects throughout the year. Typical projects include seasonal chores such as yard work, leaf raking, snow shoveling, window washing and ramp building. Groups may choose to schedule a special workday and/or be "on-call" to help out as needed.

Volunteers are also welcome to join us for our annual Fall Chore Day when hundreds of community members rake leaves for seniors throughout Washtenaw County. Please visit our photo gallery to see our Fall Chore Day volunteers in action!

How can I volunteer my time to support the work of NSS?
Neighborhood Seniors Services welcomes you to share your talents with us! Whether it is serving on our Board of Directors, working on a committee, or helping out with special events - we are eager to hear from you!
